Hosting tea parties have always been one of my favorite events. I love it all; the tea cups, the fine china, the decorating, the invitations, the serving and of course- the food. So, you can imagine my delight when I had the opportunity to partner with International designer and friend Sharon Cleland from J Banks in Hilton Head to host a Coastal Shamrock and Peach tea party? Tea by the sea…
Sharon began her tablescape by interweaving recipes hand written by her 92 year old Irish grandmother to form a table cloth. Moss from both the low country and Ireland were the background to the centerpiece with local oyster shells, drift wood and tied together with a nautical rope. Our guests each took home a hand printed Irish linen tea towel, and a peach with an attached Irish blessing…what fun!
My menu began with a selection of savories on the bottom of the 3-tier cake stand followed by cinnamon fall scones with pumpkin butter, apple creams, Irish butter shortbreads and the top layer with white chocolate biscuit cake. We paired teas with each course including Irish breakfast with savories, pumpkin spice with our breads and ginger peach with our biscuit cake.
Yum yum on the island!
This week it’s back home to Roswell and I know I will have time to drink tea and remember this beautiful event.
